Business As Usual

(Charleston) Charleston Mayor Danny Jones says Christmas Eve will be business as usual. The city is not planning to close its doors and give the workers a day-off.

"We will put in full day because what we do is very real. It is very specific," says Mayor Jones.

He says the city can't afford to lose services like police and fire for a full day. The mayor doesn't think it's fair that those employees have to work while other city workers are off celebrating.

Already, Governor Manchin has declared Christmas Eve a holiday this year for state workers and the Kanawha County Commission is considering doing the same for the county. However, Jones says those ideas also run into the same problems as the city.

"I am concerned about state workers that get it versus those that don't, and those that don't might be a little edgy about that," the Mayor says.

Mayor Jones says workers who want Christmas Eve off are welcome to use a vacation day for the holiday.

If elected Senator, in your opinion, would Joe Manchin be a rubber stamp for the Obama administration?
